CELLULITE
Effective New Treatments
What is cellulite?
Cellulite is an uneven, dimpled or bumpy fat layer that lies just under the skin. It forms on the thighs, hips, and buttocks of most women. Cellulite occurs when fat cells protrude through the thin fibrous connective tissue that exists between the skin, the fat and the underlying muscles. Some of these fibers or “septae” may become hardened over time and contract, creating an unsightly dimple or depression in the skin. Weight gain and dietary changes can cause fat cells to swell and bulge resulting in more noticeable cellulite. With aging, sun damage and frequent weight changes, skin can become thinner, revealing more surface irregularities and worsening the appearance of cellulite.*
Cellulite is much more common in women than in men with almost 9 out of 10 women having some degree of cellulite. This is because the subcutaneous connective tissue structure in females is less dense than that in men. Plus, women usually have thinner skin than men so any fat irregularities are more noticeable in women.
How Do I Reduce My Cellulite?
Reducing or removing cellulite is not easy to accomplish because three processes must be successfully administered. First; the superficial fat cells must be smoothed and reduced in number, second; some of the fibrous tissue connections or septae must be loosened to enable the skin to become flat and smooth, and, third; the skin must be sufficiently stimulated to make new collagen which results in a firmer, smoother skin surface.
Until recently it was difficult if not impossible to perform all three processes, not to mention performing all three processes during the same treatment. However, Sciton recently released CelluSmooth, the latest addition to their ProLipo System. CelluSmooth permits us to effectively and quickly treat cellulite with minimal downtime.*
